Gates & Closure

I started here, with branch piles of all the tree limbs that fell down while I was out East, & some pesky bunnies.
It had been a tough run for my mom, she kept intending to get them burned down, but the piles got too big for the weather & no equipment - it gets rough safety wise.
I was seed starting & had milkweed, penstemon, 2 varieties of columbine going on my growing racks I used out East (where the bunny rabbit is actually extinct - weasles & voles & things - but no bunnies), chipping away at the piles daily.
Then… our winds here gave my stands a run for their money, the bunnies said - hey I’ll hop up there & nibble those & I realized - not a continuation - rebuild ground up. Hurry up.
Thankfully, a north neighbor gave a fair price to help me get my space cleared & I got after it:

I built off the hope I can someday hoop it & the smaller size 30 x 50 can cover with walk around room. OMRI approved over concentrated citrus oil for the weed spray, cardboard base under Cedar - boy the berries don’t mind being held in Cedar AT ALL.
I got wheels for my roller carts & window mesh screen for hail protection, roll the babies in & out while I drive Runnings staff crazy - “how many more pallets of cedar can you get…?”
And then last fall, Oct 8th, I closed the gate to nursery #1 at Heartland Acres, for the first time.

My reminder alert came across Wednesday, while I was getting ready for the last Farmer’s Market, of my first official season operational.

It takes what it takes. And it’s such a gift, to even get to try to work with nature.
As the saying goes - love what you do, and you won’t actually work a day in your life.
Nursery # 2 - already laid out. It’s going to shelter shrub stock & huge monarch hatch area with in-ground perennial starts.
We shall see how Fall catch up goes - maybe before the ground freezes, I’ll have posts in - because in case you didn’t know - my favorite tool of all time, fencing pliers. Next favorite - post pounder. Then comes the root digger shovel… because you can’t ‘Field of Dreams’ without a good shovel.
Set the Line.
Hold the Line.
Move the Line.
Goood Morning! Go get it!
