Two years ago, just before sunrise, mom & I were trying to get a lil car road trip sleep, to make that last bit of my loooong drive home to the farm. We had decided a few weeks prior - our future was the Letcher way, at Heartland Acres, together. And we don’t dwaddle. Even when the weather makes departure… more of an adventure?
So there we were, gas station parking lot somewhere south-eastern Minnesota. Tilly cat was happy we stopped but over her crate, Tucker dog & Tali puppy wondered if there was ever going to be ‘yard’ again when the car stopped. Mom seriously regretting NOT being dropped at an airport along the way.
We had to be quite the sight - not one inch extra room in my outback or the trailer. Completely exhausted, we made that last left turn into the driveway mid-afternoon, and the critter crew was sniffing the familiar air, mom was ready to hop out & see her kitty crew…and I - I stopped the car just before the property line, looked at mom, & said - “Hang on”, and hopped out, to draw a line across the driveway.
I hopped back in, & told mom - “ there’s the starting line. It doesn’t matter how tired we are, whats happened already, ready or not - thats the starting line. Ready?”
I’ve been told (by my sister specifically) that my nostalgia is incredibly annoying. I saw that in my mothers face - mixed with pride though. ☺️. Thats how I knew - yup she was ready, ok to roll.
She told me this morning, looking at a video from our warm December of 2023 - I’m amazed at what you have done already. And I’m still correcting her - “WE mom, what WE have done”.
Teamwork makes the Field of Dreams work right? ; )
652 days until the biiiiiiig planting party of 2027.
I can’t wait, even though I’m already tired. It doesn’t matter though:

We don’t believe in too hard
