Accumulating Rain! 0.55” Wohoo!
It has been such a dry summer. And the forecast has been so unkind in the moisture category - as Grandpa Sarge always said “If you want to know the weather, stick your head out the window”.
I was sad to re-schedule Canby Central Park Sales Monday afternoon - but - so excited for REAL raindrops - I had to go out the Letcher way, puddle jumping in my mud boots. ☺️
I do wonder what folks who don’t know me think as they roll down the highway & see me playing in the driveway.
Hopefully it brings out their younger self & they embrace the “always jump in the lake” mentality I truly believe is important to hold on to as an adult.
I love how any widespread moisture immediately brings the deep color back to the big bluestem & all the land flowers, I worked so hard to seed & spread, just smile right back - if you’re paying attention.
The fall weather pattern seems to be setting up nicely in line with temps for perennial planting.
YES - fall & spring are THE best times to settle native roots & the seeding window of go-go-go really hits high gear in the next week.
I will stop offering plants for sale when we cross the line of too risky with likely hard ground freezes out there on the horizon. But we have lots of good time left. And - I’ll stop selling to folks, 2 weeks before I’ll stop planting myself.
The one thing I do recommend to all of us: mark your fall plantings as we get into October to remember they may need a little spring watering to get fully settled and really grow for it IF we have a low moisture winter.
AND - for those sometimes unseasonable weather moments where its somehow 52 and dry in December.
Yes - if the temps are high & it is dry, hook that hose back up or enjoy a walk with the watering can - the root establishment next season is always worth the work.
On another note, the last of the food crop succession planting seeds have sprouted. Future radishes, bunching onions, nante carrots & 60 day broccoli are growing for it now!
