Fall Planting & Reasons to Leave the Garden Standing

Cool nights, shorter days & that beautiful rain finally coming our way off & on = fall planting season has arrived!

YES - time to get the garlic, flower bulbs for spring & perennials out in the ground where they belong.

Fall planting allows roots to settle in for established growth next season, easier watering in as most are closer to home this time of year plus we are mainly past the hot scorching days of summer - AND - many held in pot plants will take off once planted and the last flowers to bloom allow self seeding plus beauty for us & wildlife food and habitat for the upcoming Winter.

Don’t miss out on the future growth by waiting for spring - get to planting now in our beautiful weather.

AND - I know many get excited to tidy up for the off season, but PLEASE consider leaving cleanup for Spring. The butterflies are still doing their thing…

Many of our pollinator friends will soon be looking to crawl in for a cozy winter, leaving your flower heads stand provides habitat & will bring birds to your yard over winter, and protects the crown of roots in case we have cold temps with little snowpack.

Next year’s blooms will thank you - along with the natural seed spread of nature.

Momma Nature always does it best - so copy her & enjoy a little rest from the clean up work.

It is always invigorating in Spring to tidy up then, enjoying finding the first sprouts and migrating birds coming home. Plus, the trimmings make extra fresh mulch to hold in the moisture for the summer ahead.

I always have plants in Oscar Truck, should someone feel the urge to plant & need perennials ASAP.

Although - I have to do a better job checking my cuts - found this little future Monarch who accidentally rode to town on Thursday…

I get to enjoy the stem until they get done & ready to fly. You never know what you’ll find in my cut flowers ☺️
