Seeds Popping & Birdcast is Live

It’s always a beautiful day when the common round leaf (Asclepias Syriaca) milkweed pods start popping.

Especially after such a dry summer!

Like goldenrod blooms, the fluff starts popping as the seasons are changing… and that also means… the birds are on the move & Cornell’s Birdcast is live again!

The first link is for all general migration info, 2nd link is for adjustment to local birds forecast to the area you set, and the 3rd link is to download the free Merlin Ap for your phone.

Birdcast can be set by county or town - it will tell you who to look for & download Merlin for extra birdie nerdie support this time of year.

Both are FREE, provided to us all by the awesome scientists at Cornell University.

I especially love Merlin for bird watching, as it shows you what species you are hearing & provides photos of each bird (male / female at different stages of age) it hears - allowing you a better chance of catching a glimpse of our beautiful feathered friends flying through.

You can also save birds spotted to your life list in the ap - how many will you spot this fall?!

Recent rains have supported more blooms all over, as the native & nativar asters start to steal the flower show - and their seeds will provide food for our bird friends through the colder seasons ahead.

Time to get those last roots in for establishment before winter arrives.

These beautiful fall days with moisture coming in allow them to get settled for more growth next season.
