Fall Flowers & Think Spring (I know, I know - But it’s True!)
I love the perennial cuts this time of year.
Especially since Spring was low on mole max, high on bunny damage.
Hopefully the start of next season is less chaotic. 😂🤞🏻 I can hope right?
The Larkspur are coming into a lovely 2nd bloom, great blue lobelia & cardinal flower are so happy, & I can’t tell you how excited I am to be able to offer Spotted Bee Balm next season, all on display in the fresh cut bouquets.
Tucker Dog says he’s doing his best guarding the larkspur seedlings from the squirrels (hiding in the box behind the mock orange).
I was just able to add a few more coneflowers for those who couldn’t pre-order & some beautiful University of MN Perennial Hardy Mums (Red Bronze (traditional smaller blooms), a Pretty Coraly-white Daisy variety (bigger blooms), & of course, Yellow Quill (more evergreen / less bushy growth) to my offerings.
And, in the next few weeks, I’ll have more ‘Pirate’ (Beardstounge) Penstemon ready to go, happy columbines to get growing for next spring, along with… Queen of the Prairie.
I am really excited for the Queen - so much so, I waited for Miss Jodi. Now that she has returned to market, I will be debuting it at Canby, next Thursday, Aug 27th.
I’m working on the seed mixes too: I’ll have naturalizing Hirta Black Eyed Susan & Purpea (Native Purple Coneflower) & some mixed columbine ready to go out in the next week or so. (Columbine makes a great understory /mulch / ground cover plant…)
And…. It’ll be decide by frost, but its possible I’ll have a bit of produce from the late season veggie starts to offer toward the end of September.
The mortgage lifters say - just Believe, we got this. ☺️ And I’m glad the Monarchs are still in full swing instead of flying mode. If you arrive late, you should leave late - so we get to enjoy you a full seasons worth.
